Dress It Up—It’s Going in the Post!

Who said the magic of a greeting card should only be found on the inside?

In the office, we squeal with excitement every time a letter from one of our designers, J. Falkner, drops through the letterbox. His envelopes are little works of art in their own right—so special, in fact, that our office pinboard is full of them. There’s something undeniably wonderful about receiving a beautifully decorated envelope.

It’s a promise that something special lies within, and that it’s not a bill or yet another another catalogue. We all know the expression “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but let’s be honest—we often do! And when an envelope has a touch of pizzazz, you can probably get away with writing complete waffle in the Thank You note (though we don’t necessarily encourage that…). When your hear ‘decorated envelope’, you might think of the little doodles Henri Matisse once scribbled onto his letters—floral sketches that made even the outside of the post, a piece of art.

But don’t panic: you don’t need to be a world-famous painter to make an envelope feel special! Colourful inks, washi tape, bubble writing, novelty stamps, stickers, collage—the possibilities are endless. Just think of the envelope as a mini canvas for creativity. After all, the envelope is the first impression—and we think it deserves to be just as enchanting as what’s within. Some of our favourite envelope masterpieces below to get you started…
